A Glamorous Pink Wedding in Ottawa

real weddings

For Shannon and Mathieu, a chance encounter in the elevator at work was the beginning of a drawn-out courtship. Three years and several false starts later, they finally got together. “I had just returned from Iceland, and Mat had been on a trip to Sri Lanka, so he suggested we get together to share pictures,” Shannon recalls. “As it turned out, Mat didn’t have any pictures—but I was still impressed,” she laughs. Just eight months later Shannon was shopping for a wedding dress for her pink wedding celebration in Ottawa! After deciding on an exquisite Oscar de la Renta ballgown, the rest of the pink wedding details fell into place. The two planned a lush and romantic celebration, and not even the Ottawa Marathon, complete with road closures and other related headaches, could stop them from enjoying their pink wedding fairytale ending.

Host A Wizard of Oz Wedding

planning

Inspiration for your wedding theme can come from anywhere—a favourite destination, book or movie can provide the kick start you need to start planning. After all, your wedding should be about expressing your personalities and sharing what you love most with your guests! On the subject of favourite movies, The Wizard of Oz, a true classic dating back to 1939, is rife with inspiration for a bright and whimsical wedding. Plus, it just so happens that all things Wizard of Oz are back in the spotlight thanks to the impending release of Oz: The Great and Powerful starring James Franco, Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz. Directed by Sam Raimi of Spider-Man fame (the Tobey Maguire trilogy), Oz: The Great and Powerful is a prequel to the Wizard of Oz, and focuses on how the Wizard of Oz came to be. Needless to say, it’s the perfect time to plan a wedding inspired by Dorothy and her friends. If you don’t want to go all out with a Wizard of Oz theme, consider incorporating small touches such as your very own pair of ruby slippers. And if you do want to fully embrace the Wizard of Oz for your wedding, there are plenty of ways to do so—from a yellow brick road aisle runner to a gorgeous pink Glinda The Good Witch-inspired gown. Here are some of our favourite Wizard of Oz wedding ideas.

A Bright Orange and Blue Wedding in Calgary, Alberta

real weddings

Erin and Lee just knew they’d be married one day—and early in their relationship they had already selected their first dance song. “We shared our feelings through music because we weren’t ready to admit our real feelings yet,” Erin confesses. “The song ‘Blush’ by Ben Lee perfectly defined how we felt about each other when we started dating,” she explains. The tune took on even more meaning when Erin and Lee took their first twirl as husband and wife at Calgary’s Endeavor Arts, a contemporary art gallery, during their orange and blue wedding celebration. “We didn’t realize a relationship or love could be so easy,” Erin gushes.
