About the couple

Bride: Jessica Iafigliola

Groom: Giovanni (Johnny) Evangelista

How they met: “We were both part of a fashion show organized by our university. Since our practices never overlapped, we actually only met a few days before the show at a rehearsal dinner,” says Jessica. “It so happened that we ended up getting seated across from each other – where we had our first spark,” she exclaims.  “A few weeks after the show, all the participants reunited and awards were given out for different categories. We were both selected for Mr. And Mrs. Personality! We decided to meet after school one day to ‘look over some pictures from the fashion show.’  From then on one date led to another and the rest is history.”

Engagement story: “We planned a European trip in the summer 2009,” explains Jessica. “Our first stop was Prague. Johnny had done research on the city to find the most romantic place to propose. The most popular location was the famous Charles Bridge.  Since he did not want to propose in front of random people walking across the bridge, he rented out an entire sightseeing-type cruise boat that passed right next to the bridge where he could propose in private, while still incorporating the bridge. He hired a violinist to come onboard to serenade us during the whole boat ride. The best part is that right after the proposal, it started to rain. As soon as it stopped, only a few minutes later, a beautiful rainbow came out.”

5 Fabulous Engagement Rings for Less Than $1,500

When it comes to your engagement ring, don’t think you have to sacrifice on style just because budget is a concern. We scoured the world wide web for beautiful baubles that ring in under $1,500, and came up with these five fashionable options. In fact, three of the five are actually less than $1,000! Some tips on how to save? Consider a smaller diamond (that’s still high quality) in a classic solitaire setting, or an alternative stone such as white sapphire, which has the colour and shine of a diamond—but at a fraction of the price. Keep in mind that white gold is also a more affordable alternative to platinum (but provides a similar look).

A New York Destination Wedding Inspired by Heritage

About the couple

Bride: Cynthia Edorh

Groom: Richad Rondon

Their wedding day: “We knew we wanted to get married in the city where we met and fell in love but also liked the idea of a venue that didn’t feel quite so urban,” explains Cynthia. “We chose Alder Manor, an early twentieth century country estate, built in 1912 by the same architects behind the Frick and The New York Public Library on Fifth Avenue. Its location overlooking the Hudson River and unusual history made it unique and charming — the mansion was recently used as background for some of our favourite films including Wes Anderson’s The Royal Tenenbaums. Our afternoon ceremony was officiated by Reverend Dr. Sheila Gross in both French and English and took place in the vine-covered gardens of Alder Manor. A steel pan musician played during the cocktail hour while photographer Ricardo Lardiez made Polaroid transfers of all our guests. Those were given as favours at the end of the night. We worked closely with calligrapher Jenna Hein on our family tree and table numbers that were made from vintage postcards. For flowers, we chose primarily green roses and white dahlias. Our guests dined on watermelon arugula salad, grilled salmon and skirt steak served with summer vegetables. The late night candlelit reception included music by DJ Dhundee, a lot of dancing and a dark chocolate truffle and raspberry cake! Overall, we wanted our wedding day to be elegant, timeless and uncomplicated. Our goal was for everyone to have fun.”
