Five Minutes with Catalina Maddox of David’s Bridal

Fashion & Beauty

As you’ve probably already heard, David’s Bridal is coming to town! In advance of tomorrow’s grand opening events in Mississauga and Scarborough, David’s Bridal invited members of the media to a sneak peek at their gorgeous wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses and accessories. In addition to checking out all the stylish goods on display, I also had a chance to chat with David’s Bridal Fashion Director, Catalina Maddox. She shared her thoughts with me, including her belief that a bride should never have to sacrifice her vision on account of a limited budget. Fortunately, at David’s Bridal every bride can find a dreamy dress that’s well priced, too. Of course, I would be remiss if I didn’t ask Maddox to weigh in on the Kate Middleton effect—particularly what Kate should wear for her big day. Check out her response!

Hues, tones, textures… they can say so much. When my long time childhood friend, talent artist, graphic designer, and in my humble opinion colour expert, asked me to do her flowers, I admit I was stressed!! She had a vision of specific autumn colours accented with warm notes of eggshell blue, mixed throughout layers of petals. After searching through magazines for inspiration, pouring over pantone colours, and choosing the perfect ribbons, this is what we came up with. Enjoy, I hope these pictures inspire you to come up with your own unique colour palette. (More photos after the jump) Read the rest of this entry »

Current Obsession: Wedding Sparklers

planning » planning » Reception Ideas

To me sparklers are a great reminder of all the good things associated with your childhood. The only sad part about them is that they don’t last very long–it’s a good thingmy parents stocked up because they knew how much fun I had twirling them around. Recently, I’ve seen sparklers used at weddings–for guests to use during the reception (they make for the most fantastic photos) or simply as favours. Either way, I’ve never seen them wrapped up in such a pretty way the way TOPS Malibu packages them, don’t you agree?

It’s not every day that you get five known designers to sketch a shoe just for you. Then again, it’s not every day that you get to marry a prince. Luckily for Kate, she’s got both. Inspired by the royal wedding, Manolo Blahnik, Giuseppe Zanotti, Rene Caovilla, Cesare Casadei and Georgina Goodman were all asked by Footwear news to design a sketch fitting for the princess. What did they come up with? Read the rest of this entry »
